POLITIX

A Libertarian Republican seems closer to a Progressive like me than some of his
own party.

This guy is great to talk with.
We both love politics like most guys like sports.
We both think
George W. Bush
should be in jail.

I have a friend who is running for Congress.
He is a Libertarian Republican.
He has run for the office before against the illustrious Democrat Tom Lantos.
He has run as a Libertarian.
He has run as a Republican.
Always Lantos has won with huge margins.
He vehemently disliked Lantos because of Lantos early on Pro War stance.

Now, since Lantos has died, the upcoming election is for his seat.

"May he rest in peace" Mike says
He is running as a Republican.
Against another moderate pro-Bush Republican and the popular Jackie Speier.

He is not your typical Republican. To say the very least he is not.

I have often had the pleasure of political discourse with him many times and always enjoyed it.
Lengthy midnight chats at the 24 Hour Royal Donut in Burlingame.
And he has been to my place too.
You might also see him on El Camino with a sign or protesting in front of a government building.
He is a different bird.
I disagree with him on several things, but was surprised to find avid agreement about g.w.bush & company.
"The Gang of Eight" he calls them.
He wants to see them all behind bars locked up for treason.
He is as anti-Bush as I am. You should hear him rant - oh boy!
His insights and understanding of the way politics works is truly uncanny.
His bold statements and brash personality are softened by a twinkly eyed, witty Irish charm.
He is amusingly aggressive. And ain't afeared o' sayin' what he believes.

I am not sure if this is a recommendation to vote for him, as I am a Yellow Dog Democrat,

but I definitely give him respect and consideration.
Like me, he loves politics like others love sports.
It is The Big Game and I love paying attention to all the backside maneuvering.
Inside baseball ain't got nuthin' on inside politics.
He has the spirit of the founding fathers.
And also like me he doesn't like anyone screwing with the Constitution - our secular holy document,
the way bush & company tried three times.

Look his site over- he takes an interesting stance on things.
He has said this on his website:

"President George W. Bush was fed lies and more lies by neo-conservatives like
Vice President Dick Cheney, former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz,  and White House press secretaries Ari Fleischer and Scott McClellan. Also, Richard Perle, Norman Podhoretz, and Douglas Feith were part of what I call "the gang of eight".
Only Congress can declare war, and in this case Congress did not declare war, but our country was attacked, and President Bush did what any other president would have done had the attack happened on their watch. I strongly believe that the aforementioned "gang of eight" is responsible for the war, and they must be brought to justice.
"In short, the Bush administration led the nation to war on the basis of erroneous information that it methodically propagated and that culminated in military action against Iraq on March 19, 2003."
